What I am most passionate about in my work is that nothing is invented, and what drives me to dedicate myself to it is that it’ s always different. I average 20 weddings a year. I’ve been organizing weddings since 2013, all of them, without exception, have been different.
Today I want to talk about a type of wedding that we have been organizing for a couple of years in Renata Enamorada which I really enjoy working on, these are the Elopement Weddings and although its name might sound modern, its origin is very antique.
The term “elopement” literally means “to flee and never return to the place from which you are running”. This term has been used since 1800 to refer to those young couples who decided to elope, usually because their union was not approved by their parents, either due to their social status or religion. As I have researched, afterwards, couples also eloped and married privately for financial and reputational reasons. Their family could not afford a traditional wedding and would prefer to hold it in strict privacy, without a feast and only celebrating the sacrament of marriage.
Nowadays, the couple “no longer runs away” for any of the reasons mentioned above but they do look for a different kind of wedding in which the only thing that matters is the union between them and in which they rather prefer getting married alone in the strictest intimacy.
I have to say that it is a very special and romantic way to show your partner that you love him/her and that nothing is more important than that.
It’s not the same to hold a ceremony for a hundred people as it is for two, and that’s what allows you to get married in any location, from the city center to the middle of nature. The possibilities are endless, as the organization of these weddings is just for two people, which allows a lot of freedom in terms of mobility and adaptation in any space.
Today I’d like to share with you many of the advantages of this type of wedding:
Usually couples choose a different city or what is more common, a different country than their home one. This implies, on the one hand, to organize and enjoy a beautiful trip, your particular honeymoon and at the same time, to get married in a unique place. Maybe your favorite place in the world or perhaps a place you have never been before.
Imagine getting married in Cabo Roche in Cadiz, in the Bologna Dunes or the Alhambra in Granada or even in the Plaza de España in Seville. These are idyllic and unique places where it would be unfeasible to organize a ceremony with a hundred guests but it is totally possible to have an intimate ceremony with just the master of ceremony, the photographer and the couple.
The fact that it’ s an intimate wedding does not mean there is no attention to detail. Of course you can have your special wedding dress, makeup and hairstyle done by a professional, photographer and videographer, decorate the ceremony, and have your lunch or dinner with your partner as you always dreamt of. This is an intimate wedding, a special event that should be treated with the same care as if it was a wedding with a hundred guests.
It’s all advantages, because the budget for this type of wedding has nothing to do with a budget for a wedding of a hundred guests. It is heavily reduced.
In all weddings there are moments when the couple feels the duty to do something different from what they would have wished; like inviting those friends of your parents that you don’t even know, setting the banquet up with tables with table cloth to please your mother-in-law, wearing a different dress than the one you would like because of “what they will say” or simply not being 100% faithful to your preferences. This never happens at elopement weddings. The wedding will be in the place, the form and the type that only and only the couple wants as no one else will assist.
You can perfectly travel to another place, get married in the strictest intimacy, enjoy an elopement wedding and afterwards, in your home town, if you feel like it, celebrate a party with friends and family, with or without a ceremony and even surprise your guests by sharing your elopement wedding photographs with them. I assure you that you’ll surprise them.
From afar, always, I have witnessed several wedding elopements organized by Renata, and it was impossible to not get excited about it, being so far away that I almost couldn’t even see them and then seeing the result in pictures. Seeing two people, in their intimacy, whispering their vows to each other, excited, getting married, alone, in the most intimate way that can be done makes you feel goose bumps and I am sure the feeling for both must be the same.
Being faithful to the most important thing in a marriage, the union with your partner, that is the essence of this type of wedding.
The elopement weddings are a very good option for all those couples who flee from convention, those who do not like crowds, commitments or follow any kind of social rules. They are a kind of wedding for those couples in love, risky, who are looking for something different but not for that reason careless. Rebellious couples who also want to enjoy a beautiful trip with their loved one.
